About:
Friday Morning Basketball (FMB) are competitive good-spirited basketball games played between the staff and students at the great De Pere High School. Inaugurated in the 2008-2009 season, it started as a low budgeted program that drew few to none players. As doubts were clouded over FMB, crystals have been dug out to revitalize the program. "The Godfather" Andrew Steger the commissioner/player/creator had a vision no other soul was able to recognize. It was believed early on that if you were not a senior, or at least part of the varsity basketball team, you were not welcome. As De Pere basketball legend Adam Beyer has been seen attending in his younger days, but there have been very few sightings of underclassman being able to play. Changes have been starting to occur in the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 season. Sightings of younger athletes started sprinkle throughout mornings ahead. Alex Van Lanen and Jacob Sekelsky were some of the first non-senior and also non-basketball player to show up. Throughout there junior years they were the only two non-basketball underclassmen to show up. Although controversy may have been brought up in the locker rooms. The seniors at the time respectively allowed the contribution of the 2 newcomers. Near the end of the 2012 season, a new vibe has been created. A strong sense of improvement was on the way. The class of 2013 felt it was their responsibility to help expand the program. As the season began it was seniors, and it continued this way until what may be considered the most important 3 month period in FMB history. Throughout the months of March and June, underclassmen teams started showing up, thus creating a new competitive spirit. More people came, and suddenly the program became a powerhouse. The 2013-2014 season grew such that no one would have believed. Just 5 years in, all grade levels are represented, All 3 courts are being used, and up to 30 athletes show up at 6 a.m. to play basketball. Long gone are the days of struggling to get just one 3 on 3 game going. There were even 1 on 1 games throughout the early years. This program will continue to grow and have great success in the future.
